At Brigstock Latham’s Primary School we recognise the benefits that PE and Physical Activity have on the health and wellbeing of our pupils and the essential role it plays in developing the sense of community in the school as a whole. Our PE curriculum is designed to inspire, engage and encourage a healthy lifestyle for all year groups, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to develop an in-depth understanding of PE. They are enabled to learn a range of physical movement and sporting techniques in which they can apply to different elements of everyday life. Our children are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle and given opportunities to contribute positively to their local communities.
Over the past 2 years, we have achieved some notable successes. Our Key Stage 2 children take part in a Cross Country event annually and a number of children placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their events in 2018-19. As a school, we have also competed in local football and netball tournaments. For the last 3 years, we have taken part in our own Race for Life event and raised over £3000 for Cancer Research.
We have a successful Y5/6 sports crew in school who plan and deliver activities during break times. Our Sports Captains work alongside the sports crew and our PE co-ordinator (Miss Griggs) and they are responsible for overseeing any sporting events within school.
Throughout the school year, we work closely with a local sports provider. LM Academy deliver specialist coaching in school, provide holiday camps and before and after school clubs for all year groups. Please visit LM Academy’s website to book clubs (link on the left handside).
Our PE curriculum currently encompasses a wide range of games and movement skills. We focus on developing the ABC’s of our pupils – Agility, Balance and Coordination – through different games and activities, delivering the physical skills needed for a healthy and active life. We have access to the local meadow which is a great space for team games, athletics and outdoor exercise. Our PE lessons focus on the key skills outlined in the new curriculum, as well as developing the whole child - socially, physically and emotionally.
We are proud to be a part of the Corby, Oundle, Thrapston School Sports. This partnership provides all of our children with a calendar of opportunities to compete in inter and intra-school competitions.
